MSC sets up rail subsidiary

Shippers urged to think barge
Imports by rail from Mexico into the US showed a large increase in January 2013, jumping over 18% to U$2.57B, according to data from the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). According to Joseph P Linck Jr, CEO of Nafta Marine Highway Company and a former CEO of the Port of Brownsville, most of Mexican railborne cargoes pass through South Texas bridges at Laredo and Brownsville, which is located on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Many are long haul to the midwest and USEC and could, says Linck, "move via our inland waterway barges, saving shippers millions in rail freight bills."...

    India's debt-laden Kingfisher Airlines, which has not flown since last October, reported yet another quarter of loss, and the resumption of operations is still not in sight as it struggles to win regulatory approvals, reported Reuters.



    Singapore Airlines orders 30 more Airbus A350-900s
    Rolls-Royce Holdings said Singapore Airlines plans to order 30 additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, taking the total number of A350 aircraft ordered by Singapore Airlines to 70, reported Dow Jones Newswires.



    Westports to raise $500m in October listing
    Westports Malaysia, operator of the country's busiest port, is expected to list on the local stock exchange in October this year in a deal that will raise up to US$500 million, two sources close to the deal told Reuters.





    Global Ports in talks to buy container terminal operator
    London-listed Russian ports operator Global Ports said it was in talks to buy National Container Company (NCC), which owns container terminals and a dry port in and around St Petersburg.

    into Fujian Jiangyin port

    Singapore's PSA International has taken a stake in China's gateway port Fujian Jiangyin International Container Terminal (FJCT), becoming the second largest shareholder after Fuzhou Port Group (FPG).



    Israel's ZIM banks on rate rise to trim debt
    Debt-strappped Israeli shipping company ZIM said it hoped an increase in rates would follow signs of rising demand as it posted a narrower quarterly loss, reported Reuters. Zim, negotiating with banks to ease its US$2.



    Tianjin Port eyes Australia infrastructure
    The main operator of China's massive Tianjin Port is considering investing in proposed new rail and port facilities in Australia's iron-rich Pilbara region, reported Dow Jones Newswires.

    UPS has officially opened its new healthcare facility in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, a move that represents a significant expansion of its Asia healthcare distribution network, reported Business Wire.

    Shri Kailash Logistics Ltd (SKLL), which commissioned the first phase of its Logicity at Oragadam near Chennai last year, has completed the second phase of land acquisition, reported The Hindu.
