The South African government's local content strategy is feeding through into the procurement of rolling stock. In late March, transport utility Transnet awarded R50B worth of contracts for a total of 1064 new locomotives, in what is the biggest locomotive supply contract in South African history. A joint venture of General Electric South Africa Technologies and CNR Rolling Stock South Africa has secured a deal to produce 465 diesel-electric engines, while CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive and Bombardier South Africa is to manufacture 599 electric locomotives. Five on Kribi shortlist
The government of Cameroon has announced a shortlist of five companies to operate the new multipurpose terminal at the Gulf of Guinea port of Kribi. The five successful bidders include two consortia: Necotrans and KPMO, and Sea Invest and CLGG; plus three individual bidders: Morocco's Marsa Maroc, ICTSI of the Philippines and APM Terminals. The shortlist was announced just weeks after the 14 March deadline for expressions of interest.
