Foes of EU emissions scheme back UN plan
Seventeen countries opposed to an EU law that makes all airlines pay for carbon they emit on flights to and from Europe reaffirmed they want to keep working on an alternative plan at the UN global aviation body, a senior US official said.



Atlas Air second quarter net profit up 29%
Cargo carrier Atlas Air posted a higher quarterly profit, aided by growth in military passenger service and increased commercial charter flying, reported Reuters.



Nine airlines get court nod on price-fixing settlement
British Airways and eight other airlines received final court approval in New York for a settlement agreement on a six-year-old antitrust class action suit that accused the carriers of fixing cargo shipping prices, reported Reuters.

Japan Airlines expects to raise about US$8.5 billion in an initial public offering next month, nearly doubling the investment of a state-backed fund that injected capital into the carrier following its bankruptcy in 2010, reported Reuters.



Iberia drags IAG into the red
IAG, formed by the merger of British Airways and Iberia, cuts its full-year profit guidance after a poor performance from its Spanish unit and rising fuel costs led it to a first-half loss, reported Reuters.



Slow air cargo growth in June – IATA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said there was continued slow growth in the demand for air cargo transport in June.



John Menzies buys UK ground handling business
John Menzies' aviation services division Menzies Aviation has bought UK-based ground handling business Flight Support from Airbase Holdings for US$8.2 million, reported Dow Jones Newswires. The company will pay an initial consideration of $7.



Kembla to be second NSW terminal
The NSW government has confirmed Port Kembla, in Wollongong, will serve as the state's second container terminal after Port Botany, as it pushes ahead with plans to privatise the assets next year and raise up to US$3 billion, reported The Australian
