Union calls for Air France strike on Oct 26
The CGT union at French airline Air France said it is calling for all employees to hold a 24-hour strike October 26, in protest of the company's restructuring plans.



Charleston boxes hit a four-year high
The first quarter of the fiscal year (July-September) was the strongest quarter for Charleston container volume in four years with 400,492 TEUs handled by the US East Coast port, a 13.3 percent gain over the same period last year.



Singapore slumps on weak global trade
Shipping traffic and sales of marine fuel in Singapore fell to a seven-month low in September as weak global economic activity further slowed international trade. Sales of bunker fuel in Singapore fell for the second month in a row in September to 3.





Be reasonable on TNT deal, UPS urges EU
UPS said yesterday it was committed to its US$6.7 billion bid for Dutch rival TNT Express and called for EU antitrust regulators to be "reasonable" in assessing it.



ADB offers loan to China's logistics industry
The Asian Development Bank announced that it will loan US$24 million to a Chinese logistics company, its first involvement in China's logistics sector.



Wheeler joins South Carolina Ports Authority
The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) has hired John Wheeler to the position of vice-president, carrier sales, effective October 29.



Cathay reports pick up in cargo demand
Cathay Pacific and Dragonair carried 134,584 tonnes of cargo and mail last month, an increase of 2.4 percent compared to September 2011. The cargo and mail load factor was down by 2.0 percentage points to 62.8 percent.



Flat August for Asia and ME airports
Asia-Pacific and Middle Eastern airports recorded a marginal increase in cargo traffic of 0.4 percent and +0.1 percent respectively in August 2012 compared to August 2011, according to the latest Airports Council International (ACI) freight flash report.



Outgrow paper dependency, GACAG tells Customs
Members of the World Customs Organization (WCO) should embrace and implement the principles of the Revised Kyoto Convention and shift from a dependency on paper documents to a full e-Customs environment, says the Global Air Cargo Advisory Group (GACAG).

Cosco Shipping, a Shanghai-listed unit of China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co, announced that its net profit for the third quarter of 2012 was US$1.2 million, an on-year decline of 72.67 percent.

DP World is forecasting a possible slowdown in Australia's imports and exports into 2013 as the ports operator considers automating its ports in Sydney and Melbourne.



Panalpina stocks plunge after profit warning
Shares in logistics firm Panalpina fall more than eight percent yesterday after the company warned weak volumes on Europe-related trade lanes would hit its financial results.



DHL makes $130M India investment
DHL Supply Chain today announced an investment of US$130 million to further strengthen its logistics infrastructure in India.
