Shake-up in the ro-ro market

APMT building on potential
The transition from port authority to private control of the Skandia container terminal in Gothenburg appears to have gone well so far. In January this year the facility was handed over to APM Terminals (APMT) on a 25 year lease. The move brought the port's lo-lo operations in line with mainstream European practice and provides the port with a greater presence in the Baltic and in northern Europe. North Sea RoRo making bigger waves
The presence of a new ro-ro op erator, North Sea RoRo, between Gothenburg and the Humber has broken DFDS' monopoly on this route, which arose through the traditional dominance and experience of Tor Line, which was taken over by DFDS. The Swedish line was gradually absorbed into the Danish group and became fully controlled from Denmark. Gothenburg becoming a regional office and "Tor" was dropped from the ships' names....

After re-opening the Cargovil inland container terminal in Vilvoorde last year, handling sugar from the Tiense refinery, the group is now planning to expand into France with an office in Paris....
