Boeing Co plans to cut hundreds of workers at a South Carolina factory where it builds 787 Dreamliners, part of a cost-reduction initiative set in motion before battery problems caused the grounding of the company's flagship jetliner, reported The Wall



MAS turns around on capacity cuts
Malaysian Airline Systems (MAS) swung to a net profit in the fourth-quarter from a year earlier, helped by a reduction in its passenger carrying capacity and lower fuel costs, reported Reuters. It booked a net profit of US$16.



IAG reaffirms Iberia restructuring plan
International Consolidated Airlines (IAG) said it is pushing ahead with staff cutbacks at Spanish carrier Iberia, as a robust performance at British Airways only partly cushioned the impact of high fuel prices and a weak Spanish economy last year,





Ryanair to cut Stansted capacity by 9%
Ryanair is to reduce its capacity at London's Stansted airport by about one million passengers over the next year after the airport increased charges by six percent, reported Reuters.



US Airways flight attendants ratify contract
Flight attendants at US Airways Group approved a contract with the carrier which provides pay raises and job protections by a margin of 80 percent, reported Reuters.



Thai Airways back to profit on forex gains
Thai Airways International reported a quarterly net profit, turning around from a loss a year earlier, as gains from foreign exchange outpaced higher staff costs, reported Reuters.



Branson plans domestic UK airline
International Consolidated Airlines and its British Airways unit face a new challenge from entrepeneur Richard Branson, The Times in London reported. The founder of Virgin Atlantic airline plans a domestic UK airline to compete with BA, The Times said.



Brazil's Q4 seaborne trade disappoints – Maersk
Brazilian seaborne trade fell 1.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2012 compared with a year earlier, much worse than had been expected as Brazil's economy fails to pick up steam, Danish shipping company Maersk Line said, reported Reuters.



DHL increases Africa access points
Express services provider DHL Express has expanded its network of service points in sub-Saharan Africa from an initial 300 to over 1,000 in a few months, reported All Africa.

Mexico airport operator GAP quarterly profit drops 10.5%
Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP) posted a 10.5 percent drop in fourth-quarter profit as revenue fell and it spent more servicing debt, reported Reuters. The company said fourth-quarter profit fell to US$40.



Mitsui bags contract for Jakarta port project
The operator of Jakarta's main seaport has selected Japan's Mitsui & Co to build, finance and operate the first container terminal at a new port facility planned for the city, reported Dow Jones Newswires.



DHL to invest $52.5m over next three years in Indonesia
DHL Supply Chain, provider of contract logistics solutions, will invest US$52.5 million over the next few years to further strengthen its position in Indonesia.



Hungary to build railroad to speed up freight transit
Hungary's government, which is seeking ways to jump-start economic growth, has decided to build a 113-km railroad to cut freight transit times across the country to one day from the current four to five days, a government official said, reported Dow
