Lufthansa to order more than 100 Airbus planes
EADS said Lufthansa's supervisory board has approved the acquisition of 100 Airbus A320 and two A380 aircraft in an order worth about US$11.2 billion at list prices, reported Reuters.



Dreamliner back in service 'in weeks'
Boeing Co executives have offered a drastically faster timetable when the grounded 787 Dreamliner will resume passenger services, cutting the period to a matter of weeks rather than months, reported Dow Jones Newswires.



Finnair workers on strike over job cuts
Finnair said some union workers went on strike on Thursday over planned job cuts in its technical services operations, reported Reuters.





Brazil's Gol cuts flights to lift profitability

Brazilian low-cost airline Gol Linhas Aereas inteligentes (GOL) cut flights in February in an effort to boost profitability, reported Dow Jones Newswires. Gol, which has been facing mounting debt, said that it offered 15.



Evergreen to offer new IDEA service
Evergreen Line will team up with Hanjin and Simatech to launch the new IDEA service linking the Indian sub-continent, Persian Gulf and East Africa from late March. Four 2,500-2,800 TEU vessels will be deployed on the joint service.



Rickmers-Linie launches new round-the-world service
Rickmers-Linie is launching a westbound round-the-world Service, connecting areas of economic growth in Asia and South America and then on to North America. The America-Asia westbound service established in 2006 now forms a part of this new service.



CSCL unit to buy into Zeebrugge terminal
China Shipping Terminal Development, a unit of China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), will make its first foray into Europe after agreeing to buy a 24 per cent stake in APM Terminals Zeebrugge in Belgium.



SA probes China rail deal

A South African public affairs watchdog is investigating a contract for 95 electric locomotives awarded last year by state logistics group Transnet to a joint venture led by a Chinese manufacturer, reported Reuters.



SWISS operating profit down 31%
Swiss International Air Lines generated total income from operating activities of US5.27 billion in 2012, a two percent increase on the previous year. But with the market environment still difficult, operating profit for the year fell 31 percent to $222.



Compromise ends Iberia strikes

Workers at Iberia on Wednesday called off further strikes over job and salary cuts at the loss-making Spanish airline after accepting a deal from a government-appointed mediator, reported Reuters.



More cancellations at Frankfurt Airport
More flights were cancelled on Wednesday at Frankfurt Airport, even though all runways are operating again after heavy snowfall forced the airport to shut down completely for several hours on Tuesday, reported Dow Jones Newswires.



ILFC urges India to free jets held hostage
The head of aircraft finance giant International Lease Finance Corp urged India to release six passenger jets held "hostage" by a bureaucratic dispute after struggling Kingfisher Airlines failed to pay for them.



American Airlines seeks more time for reorganisation
American Airlines parent AMR Corp, which is planning to merge with US Airways Group, has asked a judge for another extension of its exclusive period to file a plan to exit bankruptcy, reported Reuters.



Lufthansa CEO's contract extended
Lufthansa has extended the contract of Carsten Spohr on the executive board for a further five-year term up to December 2018. Spohr has been at Lufthansa for more than 20 years, and has held the position of chief executive since 2011.



Geodis Wilson names new CMO
Global freight management company Geodis Wilson has appointed Ivy Boyer as chief marketing officer. She succeeds Kim Pedersen, who recently became executive vice-president of Geodis Wilson.
