SWISS expanding service to Asia
SWISS will be expanding its range of services to and from Asia during the 2013 summer timetable period. From May 12 onwards the airline will offer a new daily non-stop flight between Zurich and Singapore.



India scraps control over plane purchases
India has scrapped government control over the acquisition of planes by local carriers, a government statement said, removing a major bureaucratic hurdle for the country's airlines in their expansion, reported Reuters.



Pay strike grounds 40% of Lufthansa flights
Lufthansa cancelled close to 40 percent of its flights on Thursday as staff went on strike on the eve of wage talks with the German airline, which is trying to cut costs to compete with Middle East and low-cost carriers, reported Reuters.





El Al loss widens on Israel-Hamas conflict
El Al Israel Airlines reported a wider loss in the fourth quarter, hurt by a military conflict that depressed revenue, reported Reuters. El Al, Israel's flag carrier, posted a quarterly loss of US$26.5 million, compared with a loss of $7.



ICTSI lifts stake in Pakistan port operator
International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) has raised its stake further in a Pakistan port operator, BusinessWorld reported.



First container ship calls at Kollam port
The anchoring of the first container vessel at the Kollam cargo port on Thursday afternoon triggered some hopes on the port becoming operational soon, reported The Hindu.

China International Marine Containers' net profit fell 48 percent last year because of subdued demand for containers and falling container prices on the back of a sluggish global economic recovery.

CEVA Logistics has a new China to Europe railway service, reported PR Newswire.



UPS executive appointments
UPS has appointed Cindy Miller as president of UPS Europe and Derek Woodward as president of emerging markets, effective April 30, reported Business Wire.



Air France CEO to step down early
Air France-KLM chief executive Jean-Cyril Spinetta plans to quit nine months before the scheduled end of his mandate, website La Tribune reported.
