Dear Customer,

On April 1st, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that it will re-evaluate and postpone some of the previously planned furloughs and de-authorization of overtime for agents as a result of the 2013 fiscal year appropriations bill that will mitigate to some degree the impacts to the agency by the sequester.

"I'm glad that for the time-being, irresponsible budget practices will not fall on the shoulders of the men and women in the Border Patrol," said Congressman Pete Gallego (TX-23). "These dedicated agents and their families shouldn't have to worry about financial instability on a continual basis.  That is too much pressure to put on families - and on the individuals who keep our country safe.  Our agents deserve the peace of mind that furloughs will be permanently postponed.   We need a long-term solution to bring our nation's fiscal house in order."

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection released the following statement, "In light of the Fiscal Year 2013 Appropriations bill and sequestration impacts, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is re-evaluating previously planned furloughs and de-authorization of Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime (AUO) and will postpone implementation of both at this time.   Although the budget reductions imposed by sequestration are significant, the bill's provisions allow CBP to mitigate to some degree the impacts of the reduced budget on operations and on CBP's workforce.  CBP continues to assess the exact impact the legislation will have on our operations and our workforce."
