IAG deeper in the red due to Iberia
International Airlines Group (IAG) reported wider first-quarter operating losses, as deepening trouble at its Spanish carrier Iberia wiped out progress at British Airways, reported Reuters.



QI cargo volumes up 7.8% at Dubai World Central
Dubai World Central (DWC) saw cargo volumes increase 7.8 percent in the first quarter of 2013.



ILFC Q1 profit down by half
The aircraft leasing arm of American International Group (AIG) disclosed that profits halved in the first quarter, and said its expected US$4.2 billion sale to a group of Chinese investors remains on track to close this year, reported Dow Jones Newswires.





Changi welcomes return of SWISS
After a four-year hiatus, SWISS is returning to Singapore Changi Airport with daily Zurich-Singapore Airbus A340-300 flights.



AAT tonnage starts picking up
Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT) announced that its tonnage throughput in April was 64,684 tonnes, a rise of 11 percent compared to the same period last year.



Thai Airways profit up 58% on increased traffic
Thai Airways International reported a 58 percent rise in quarterly net profit, thanks to an increase in passengers in what was the high season for tourism plus gains on foreign exchange, reported Reuters.



Kuwait Airways to order 25 Airbus jets
State-run Kuwait Airways will spend US$2.98 billion on 25 new Airbus jets and aims to lease a further 13 to upgrade its ageing fleet, a Kuwaiti newspaper reported.



American Airlines offers better cargo tracking system
American Airlines Cargo announced it will begin offering a one-time use programme with FlightSafe, the leading GPS and sensor-based tracking device for air cargo shipments.



US control towers get reprieve
The 149 air traffic control towers that were scheduled to close this summer because of federal sequestration will remain open until at least September, government officials said, reported the Los angeles Times.



Emirates does it again – for the 25th time
Dubai-based Emirates has promised to drive ``considerable economic growth'' in the countries that it serves after thumbing its nose at the weak global economic environment by posting a 52 percent jump in annual profit.

Cash-rich United Arab Shipping Co (UASC) is considering buying five of the world's largest container ships for around US$700 million, people with direct knowledge of the deal said, in a move that underlines its ambition to become a significant player in



ICTSI rides on rising shipments
International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICSTI) grew profit by a fifth in the first quarter on higher revenues from increased shipments, reported BusinessWorld. The firm's net income grew by 20 percent to US$43.



Agility wins $24m Kuwait oil contract
Agility, a global logistics provider, has won a new contract with the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), one of the leading oil companies in the Middle East. The five-year contract, worth an estimated US$24.4 million, will begin this month.



Food products firm selects DB Schenker
Oy Roberts, a family-owned company producing and providing food products for over a hundred years has appointed DB Schenker Logistics in Finland for the storage and distribution of their food products.



New DHL China-Europe multimodal link
DHL Global Forwarding, a provider of air, sea and road freight services in Europe and Asia, has introduced a second routing option for customers keen on capitalising on its existing road/rail multi-modal overland service connecting Asia and Europe.



Gati moves back into black in Q3
Express distribution and logistics services company Gati Ltd has posted a net profit of US$1.03 million for the quarter ended March 31, against a loss of $650,000 for the corresponding quarter last year, reported The Hindu.



Finance chief at OOIL jumps ship
The chief financial officer of Orient Overseas (International), the Tung family-controlled shipping, logistics and property investment group, Ken Cambie, will step down on June 1 to join Quantum Pacific as finance chief on June 2.
