Spring first budget carrier on China-Taiwan route
China's Spring Airlines is set to become the first budget carrier to operate flights between China and Taiwan, an increasingly congested but highly lucrative market thanks to booming tourism demand from mainland Chinese.



Heathrow airport first half profit up 18%
London's Heathrow airport posted an 18 percent rise in first half profit, largely driven by an increase in the fees it charges airlines, reported Reuters.



EasyJet revenue up 10.5% in three months
British budget airline easyJet issued stronger-than-expected full-year profit guidance and said it continued to add flights in markets where struggling competitors were pulling out, reported Reuters.





Felixstowe extends rail advantage
Rail services from the Port of Felixstowe have been boosted with the start of the latest new service from the UK's largest container port.



Jaxport, Sea Star sign new lease agreement
The Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) has signed a new lease agreement with Sea Star Line, a port tenant for the past 23 years.



DHL improves carbon efficiency for fourth consecutive year

DHL Express has improved its carbon efficiency for the fourth consecutive year at 7.4 percent despite a significant rise in volume. Top country performers include Thailand, Australia, Japan, Singapore, and Bangladesh.



Manhattan Associates sets new records


Supply chain commerce solutions provider Manhattan Associates reported record second quarter 2013 non-GAAP adjusted diluted earnings per share of US$0.96 compared to $0.76 in the second quarter of 2012, on record revenue of $102.



UPS Q2 profit slips as
clients opt for ocean

United Parcel Service (UPS) second-quarter results were disappointing as international shippers continued to opt for slower, less-lucrative services and its ongoing labour negotiations scared off some US customers.



Mexican airport operator posts 41% jump in profit
Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, which operates Cancun airport and eight others in southern Mexico, saw its second-quarter profit rise 41.3 percent, boosted by an increase in passenger traffic, reported Reuters.



Heathrow cuts planned hike in landing fees
London's Heathrow airport has moved to appease airlines by offering to reduce a hike in landing fees it is seeking to charge between 2014 and 2019, reported Reuters.



Ryanair agrees to sell Aer Lingus stake
Ryanair has agreed to sell its minority stake in Aer Lingus, ending a six-year corporate battle with its smaller Irish rival that included three takeover attempts.



Korean Air gives away
cargo carrier for free

Korean Air spent US$23.8 million to found a joint venture cargo airline with one of China's biggest logistics company Sinotrans in 2007, but has now signed a deal with a Chinese airline to sell the air freight carrier for one yuan.



Turkish Airlines adds five more B777s to order
Flag carrier Turkish Airlines has decided to convert an option to buy five Boeing B777-300ER airplanes into a firm order, reported Reuters. The aircraft are slated for delivery in 2016 and 2017, the state-run airline said.



Tiger deeper in the red
Tiger Airways' net loss in the first quarter widened after it reclassified loans to an associate company as investment, booking a loss in the process, reported Dow Jones Newswires. Net loss in April-June was US$26 million compared with $10.



Aramex sees modest rise in Q2 profit
Dubai logistics firm Aramex reported a 12 percent rise in second-quarter net profit, boosted by growth in core Gulf and African markets, reported Reuters. Aramex posted a second-quarter net profit of US$19.7 million compared with $17.



Union Pacific Q2 profit up 10%
Union Pacific Corp's second-quarter earnings rose 10 percent as the railroad operator's freight revenue benefited from pricing gains in key sectors and coal shipments turned up slightly, reported Dow Jones Newswires.



Geodis appoints India MD
Geodis has appointed Leif Voelcker as managing director of Geodis India.
