SWISS stabilises first half operating profit
SWISS achieved an operating profit of US$76.72 million for the first six months of 2013, an 18 percent improvement on the same period last year. Total income from operating activities was up three percent for the period to $2.67 billion.



Jetstar first budget carrier to carry freight

Jetstar Japan has become the first low-cost carrier in its market to enter the freight business with a deal to carry cargo on select routes, reported The Australian.



Etihad to buy 49% stake in Serbian airline
United Arab Emirates' Etihad Airways, which has stakes in Virgin Australia and Air Berlin, will acquire a 49 percent stake in Serbia's loss-making JAT Airways, reported Reuters.





Lufthansa Q2 profit down 42.6%
German airline Deutsche Lufthansa saw its second-quarter profit plunge 42.6 percent because of restructuring charges and the absence of non-recurring gains that inflated last year's result, reported Dow Jones Newswires.



IAG swings to profit as Iberia improves
International Airlines Group (IAG) swung to a second quarter profit as its Spanish carrier Iberia started to show signs of recovery, adding to the resilient performance of British Airways.



Brazilian airline Tam to fire 811
Brazilian airline TAM has agreed with its workers union to cut jobs of 811 pilots, co-pilots and flight attendants as part of a cost-cutting programme, reported Reuters.
