biggest airline merger

The airline industry's biggest merger was in danger of being grounded after the US Justice Department moved to block it because of competition concerns.



Cathay posts first-half profit
Cathay Pacific Airways, the world's largest international air cargo carrier, is scaling back seating capacity on some long-haul routes to offset declines in its air freight business, allowing it to post a first-half net profit, reported Reuters.



Chennai to convert coal berth into container terminal
The Chennai Port Trust plans to convert the Jawahar Dock (East) berth into a small container terminal, reported The Hindu.





ANA on shaky ground as competition hots up
ANA Holdings's once-promising chances of logging another record operating profit for fiscal 2013 are fading because of worse-than-expected losses at core business unit All Nippon Airways, reported Nikkei Weekly.



Changi eyes India airports business
Singapore's Changi Airports International is among five parties who are vying to acquire a stake in the airports business of India's GVK Power & Infrastructure, the finance director of GVK said.



Port of Tauranga buys half of Timaru port
New Zealand's biggest export port, the Port of Tauranga, has bought a 50 percent shareholding in the Timaru port company in the country's South Island. Port of Tauranga said it would pay US$17.



Kawasaki Kisen to build facility near Laem Chabang
Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha is planning a logistics centre near Thailand's largest port to capitalise on increased demand for distribution of vehicles and parts in Asia, according to Nikkei Report.
