Intermodal stalls in the UK
Domestic intermodal rail freight in the UK (mostly shipping containers moved over Felixstowe and Southampton) stabilised at 6.30 Btkms in the 2012-13 period, according to the Office of Rail Regulation (ORR). This was marginally down on the 6.31 Btkms recorded in 2011-12. The latter figure represented a growth rate of 11% compared to 2010-11. Over the past few years, intermodal has outperformed the overall rail freight market, despite deepsea container traffic volumes struggling to regain their pre- 2008-09 dynamics....
