PTP Group in first Paraguay PPP deal
The Argentinian PTP Group has signed what is claimed to be the first PPP agreement in Paraguay and will manage the general cargo port of Villeta, located 40 km downriver from the capital, Asuncion, for a period of 20 years. PTP reportedly agreed to pay an annual fee to operate the port and guaranteed minimum cargo levels. Over the last decade, Paraguay's economy has grown at an annual rate of 10%, requiring a rapid upgrade in port infrastructure to keep up with demand....

French firm Necotrans has won the concession to operate the Port of Brazzaville in the Republic of the Congo. The company will invest US50M in rehabilitating the port by the end of next year and then seek to increase port capacity over the full 15 years of the concession....

New port for Mexico
The governor of the Mexican state of Nayarit, Robert Sandoval, has announced plans to build a new port - Puerto Nayarit. This would require finance of US$3.6B, with funding to be provided by China Machinery, China Merchants Holding, China International Marine Container and Qtraid. If the port is built, it will be the only one on the North/Central American continent, according to the governor, able to accommodate 18,000 TEU vessels....

Novorossiysk undergoes ownership changes
JP Morgan has reduced its stake in Novorossiysk Commercial Seaport group (NMTP) from 18.41% to 8.249%. The buyer and the price have not been disclosed. Last October, Transneft, which had, on a 50-50 basis with Summa group, co-held a 50.1% stake in NMTP, bought a comparable stake (10.5%) in the port operator for about US$240M....
