The city of Venice has put up for sale its 14.1 percent stake in the operator of its local airport, in a last-ditch attempt to meet year-end budget targets and avoid possible job cuts, reported Reuters.



Polish carrier LOT applies for state aid
Polish airline LOT has applied for US$127 million as a first tranche of state aid, reported Reuters. The state-controlled group has been loss-making in the past few years, squeezed by competitors such as Ryanair and the rising cost of fuel.





Delta buys 49% SIA holding in Virgin Atlantic
Delta Air Lines has agreed to buy Singapore Airlines' 49 percent stake in Virgin Atlantic, creating a joint venture that would expand Delta's access to London's Heathrow Airport and increase competition in the lucrative transatlantic market.



Iberia staff threaten January strike over job cuts
Workers at Spanish airline Iberiacould strike in January over plans to sack a quarter of the workforce, a union source said, reported Reuters.



Qatar Airways studying Czech Airlines privatisation
Qatar Airways is interested in the privatisation of Czech Airlines (CSA), but has not taken a decision on whether to participate in it, the chief executive of the Gulf carrier said, reported Reuters.



CKYH to cancel seven voyages in mid-January

China ship sinks off Guangdong
Four are missing after a ship sank on Sunday in waters near south China's Guangdong province. The Qingyuan-registered ship experienced an engine room flood that caused it to sink near the city of Yangjiang around 11 pm locally.
