Auckland's new plan
Ports of Auckland Ltd (POAL) has unveiled a new plan to extend its Bledisloe terminal into the Waitemata Harbour. Last year POAL proposed extending the Bledisloe wharf by 283m into the harbour to expand the terminal area by 226-ha. Images of the project showed a dramatic impact on Auckland Harbour and provoked widespread community opposition. In unveiling its new plan. POAL admitted it had made a mistake. "The images were based on the 1989 port development plan which, to be honest, hadn't been looked at with fresh eyes since," an official stated. "Since then, we've taken on board the feedback and gone back to the drawing board. With the help of Dutch consulting firm TBA, we revisited the plan."...
