Sunrise cancels soya purchases
The Chinese Sunrise group is to cancel purchases of almost 2 mt of soya from Brazil due to delays in loading consignments at ports. According to Shao Guori, the manager responsible for Sunrise's soya division, the company has not received the cargo, which he says amounts to a default on the part of the suppliers, because they failed to load it....

TCB Railway expanding
TCB Railway, part of Grup TCB, reports that it has reached a monthly transportation capacity of 17,000 TEU between the Port of Barcelona and hinterland intermodal terminals in Zaragoza, Vitoria, Selgua, Azuqueca de Henares, Burgos and Valladolid. "With the current operational capacity of 280 trains per month, TCB Railway has been responsible for the most ambitious railway commitment that has been seen in any Spanish port," said Xavier Moline, CEO of TCB Railway....

MSC sets up rail subsidiary
MSC has set up a subsidiary, MSC Rail, in Portugal to operate container block trains between the port of Sines and freight terminals at Bobadela (Loures) and Entroncamento. The move, explained MSC Portugal's president Carlos Vasconcelos, was made because of uncertainties surrounding the possible privatisation of CP Carga, the freight arm of Portuguese Railways (CP). Doubts have been raised, he said, about future quality and service reliability....

Shippers urged to think barge
Imports by rail from Mexico into the US showed a large increase in January 2013, jumping over 18% to U$2.57B, according to data from the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). According to Joseph P Linck Jr, CEO of Nafta Marine Highway Company and a former CEO of the Port of Brownsville, most of Mexican railborne cargoes pass through South Texas bridges at Laredo and Brownsville, which is located on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Many are long haul to the midwest and USEC and could, says Linck, "move via our inland waterway barges, saving shippers millions in rail freight bills."...
